Year 1 have really enjoyed their topic on Fruit and vegetables. They have explored and tasted lots of new types and practised safe cutting techniques. The children linked this to their art work on Guiseppe Acrimboldo and presented their final piece on work in a grazing platter. Obviously the best part was devouring their masterpiece. Well done we certainly have some future chefs on our hands!!
Year 1 did their end point work today which linked nicely to their DT topic of fruit and vegetables. The children recreated their own class portrait using fruit and vegetables in style of Giuseppe. The children thoroughly enjoyed this end point and were very imaginative artists!
Today we had a whole school prize assembly to celebrate our achievements this year. The children have worked so hard and should be so proud of themselves. They all received a special Well done pencil from our Chair of governors Mrs Hughes. An extra special congratulations to Pearl and Louie for being awarded the Y1 St Joseph’s diligence and progress awards. Mrs McCarten and Mrs Kennan are so proud of you all!
Today we had a scientist come to visit our school. It was amazing! Year 1 did lots of different experiments – our favourite one was was the one with the plasma ball. It was so exciting! Then we made our own slime that we can take home tonight.
Year 1 had a wonderful afternoon when the mobile farm came to visit our school.
We have been learning about farms in geography and had lots of questions to ask Farmer Natalie.
The children enjoyed cuddles with her rabbits, guinea pig and even the hen – Penny, who had such soft feathers. Farmer Natalie also brought along a goat, a calf and two lambs. The children enjoyed giving the calf her milk and stroking the other animals. What a fantastic afternoon!
This week Year 1 did their special phonic challenge work.
They were all amazing and enjoyed their sweets and lolly ices!
Year 1 completed their CAFOD walk against hunger on Wednesday 6/4. They have raised money for CAFOD who work with communities living in poverty around the world. Well done Year 1!
Today Year 1 had a Toy Workshop led by Delve into History. They had the chance to have hands on experience and play with toys from the past. The children learnt about how toys have changed over the years and become more interactive yet the same enjoyment is still there with older toys such as the spinning top. A great afternoon , one we won’t forget!
