Autumn Term in Year 1
English
We will be reading Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and learning to:
- Combing words to make sentences
- Leave spaces between words
- Begin to use capital letters and full stops
- Use a capital letter for people’s names and the personal pronoun ‘I’.
We will also be reading non-fiction texts about penguins and Antarctica, exploring collections of poetry, and reading The Twits by Roald Dahl.

We will be: developing our understanding of number and place value to 10 and 20, practising addition and subtraction within 10, and exploring the properties of shape.

We will be investigating how living things are suited to their habitats, and learning about what animals, including humans, need to survive.

We will be developing our knowledge of continents and countries by learning about the varying human and physical of a country on each continent.
History
Toys in the Past
We will be learning more about life and events within living memory by exploring toys from the past.
Computing
Modern Tales
We will be learning about how to safely communicate on the internet.
Music
Combining Pulse, Rhythm and Pitch
We will be learning to recognise and understand pulse, rhythm and pitch and how these are can be combined to create compositions.
Design and Technology
Delightful Decorations
We will be developing our cutting and sewing skills to design and make our own Christmas decorations.

We will be developing the skills required to begin playing invasion games by learning to play rugby.
