Spring Term in Year 1
English
We will be reading The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth
by Ellie Hattie and learning: to join words and clauses using ‘and’; to change the meaning of verbs and adjectives by adding prefixes; and to punctuate sentences with full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.
We will also be reading non-fiction texts about animals, and enjoying a selection of picture books including Beegu by Alexis Deacon.

We will be applying our art skills across the curriculum by producing art related to the four seasons.

Toys in the Past
We will be learning about the development of toys through the years and exploring changes that have taken place in living memory.
Computing
What is a computer?
We will be looking at the inner workings of computers and even making one of our own.
Music
Have Fun with Improvisation
We will be beginning to learn to improvise when singing and playing instruments.
Design and Technology
Making Fire Engines
We will be designing and making fire engines and learning about the great designer Henry Ford.

We will be developing the skills needed to play net and wall games and beginning to play tennis.

We will be thinking about belonging to a community, introducing ideas about media and digital literacy; and exploring the world of money and work.
