Autumn Term in Year 1
English
We will be reading Nibbles by Emma Yarlett and learning to:
- Join words using and
- Use plural noun suffixes -s and -es Sequence sentences to form short narratives (link ideas or events by pronoun)
- Punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop
- Use a capital letter for names of people
We will also be reading a range of traditional stories and fairy tales.

We will be: developing our understanding of number and place value to 10 and 20, practising addition and subtraction within 10, and exploring the properties of shape.

We will be investigating how living things are suited to their habitats, and learning about what animals, including humans, need to survive.

We will be developing our knowledge of continents and countries by learning about the varying human and physical of a country on each continent.
History
Toys in the Past
We will be learning more about life and events within living memory by exploring toys from the past.
Computing
Mini-Beast Hunt
We will be using technology to gather and present information to classify mini-beasts.
Music
Combining Pulse, Rhythm and Pitch
We will be learning to recognise and understand pulse, rhythm and pitch and how these are can be combined to create compositions.
Design and Technology
Delightful Decorations
We will be developing our cutting and sewing skills to design and make our own Christmas decorations.

Gymnastics
We will be developing our gymnastics skills focusing on rolling and balancing.

Relationships
We will be thinking about families and friendships, safe relationships, and respecting ourselves and other.
