Spring Term in Year 2
English
We will be reading Major Glad, Major Dizzy by Jan Oke and learning to: write sentences with different forms (statement, question, exclamation, command) with correct punctuation; use subordination to join clauses; use present and past tenses correctly and consistently; and use the progressive form of verbs in the present and past tense
We will also be reading non-fiction texts about materials and exploration, and reading Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown.

We will be developing our understanding of multiplication and division, measuring length and height, recognising and describing the properties of shapes, and learning more about fractions and statistics.
Science
Uses of Everyday Materials
We will be exploring the properties of everyday materials and learning how they relate a materials properties to its uses. We will also be learning about scientist Charles Macintosh.

We will be learning about and comparing the lives and achievements of Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.

We will be learning about how to safely communicate on the internet.

Focus on Dynamics and Tempo
We will be singing songs and playing instruments with a focus on developing our understanding of dynamics and tempo.

Moving Mini-Beasts
We will be exploring and making different types of mechanisms to create scenes from moving picture books.

We will be developing our net and wall games skills by learning to play badminton.
