Our Pumpkin Soup Adventure!
What an exciting morning we had in Reception – we made our very own Pumpkin Soup!
The children were brilliant little chefs, using their cutting skills to carefully chop up the big, orange pumpkin. There were lots of “oohs” and “wows” when we opened it up and saw the stringy insides and slippery seeds! We used our senses to feel, smell, and look closely at what was inside it was messy, gooey fun!
We talked about all the ingredients we needed to make the soup and followed the steps together like real cooks. Then we read the story Pumpkin Soup and joined in with the characters’ adventure just like them, we worked as a team to make something delicious.
The classroom was filled with excitement as the soup cooked it smelled amazing! At snack time, every child had a taste in their own little cup.
What a lovely way to explore autumn, try something new, and build our cutting, talking, and teamwork skills.

Friday Art in action!
Design It, Build It, Capture It!
In our small world and construction areas, the Reception children have been using their wonderful imaginations to plan and create their own ideas. Before they begin building, the children are encouraged to draw their designs on paper, thinking carefully about what they want to make. Once their creations come to life, they use the iPad to take a photo all by themselves, proudly capturing their work. It’s been lovely to see them using their independent skills with such confidence and creativity, turning their ideas into real life models and stories.
Story time
There’s something truly special about story time in Reception, especially when our beloved school dog, Mabel, comes to join us. The children love to gather close with their books, and Mabel listens so patiently as they read aloud, creating a calm and comforting space. For many of our little ones, knowing that Mabel is nearby brings a real sense of reassurance. Her gentle presence helps take their worries away. Whether they’re feeling a little anxious or simply needing a moment of quiet, Mabel offers a kind of comfort that only a dog can. As a special reward, the children are often delighted when Mabel comes to sit and enjoy a story with them, making those moments even more magical.
Baptism
This term, the children have been exploring the meaning of belonging through the beautiful sacrament of baptism. Together, we’ve looked at the special symbols and signs that show we are part of God’s family. The children proudly brought in photographs of their own baptisms, which sparked wonderful conversations and memories. Today, we were blessed with a very special visitor, Christine Ball from the parish church, who led a heartfelt and joyful role-play of a baptism with our Reception class. The children were fully engaged, sharing their understanding with such enthusiasm, and Christine was truly touched by their knowledge and warmth. It was a memorable experience filled with love and a deep sense of togetherness.
