Understanding the World – Mini Beast Hunt
Today we went on a cold, frosty mini-beast hunt! The ground was sparkling with ice, and we talked about how the weather is changing and how the temperature drops when it gets colder. The children learned that when it gets really cold, things like grass and water can freeze.
We also spoke about how some animals go into hibernation, which means they have a long, cosy sleep during the winter to keep safe and warm.
Outside, we carefully lifted up the grass beams and found lots of mini-beasts hiding underneath. They were tucked away where it was warm and safe. The children noticed that the grass under the beams felt soft and not frosty, but the grass that wasn’t covered was cold and crunchy with frost.
The children showed great curiosity as they explored, compared the different grasses, and talked about how animals keep themselves safe in winter. This helped them learn more about the seasonal changes and the world around them.
Christmas Tree Dressing
The children enjoyed a beautiful morning decorating our school Christmas tree. We talked about Advent, the importance of each candle, and the true meaning of Christmas. Together as a school family, we gathered to sing festive songs and each child added a bauble to the tree, making it a truly special moment for everyone.

Eco- Warriors
We had an exciting afternoon as our Eco Warriors teamed up with Knowsley’s Environmental Team for a litter-picking session around our school grounds. The children deepened their understanding of the importance of the 5Rs and learned how to use the correct bins when disposing of their rubbish.
The Environmental Team were extremely impressed with how well our Eco Warriors care for the school grounds, and they’re already looking forward to working with them again.
Anti-Bullying Week
Reception children celebrated Anti-Bullying Week by wearing their odd socks to show that everyone is unique and special in their own way. It was a wonderful reminder that our differences make us who we are and together, we all shine!
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
Celebrating other Faiths- Islam
As part of our Religious Education learning, we have been exploring different faiths, focusing this term on Islam. The children brought in their own precious objects, helping them to make connections with how Muslims treasure items such as the prayer mat and the Qur’an. This activity encouraged the children to show respect for other people’s beliefs and to demonstrate love and understanding towards everyone.
We were also very grateful to Jennie’s mum, who kindly came in to share her knowledge and experiences of Islam with us. It was a truly special opportunity to learn more about the Muslim faith, and both children and staff were deeply thankful for the chance to broaden our understanding.
